Local authorities are responsible for organising moderation visits for Key Stage 2 Writing. The guidance available from this page outlines their role and responsibilities.

Schools

Schools are responsible for ensuring that teacher assessment accurately reflects a child's attainment. Schools should refer to the guidance to ensure that they understand arrangements for moderation of writing teacher assessment in 2013.

Standards and Testing Agency

STA oversees the moderation of the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP), Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 writing.  STA will scrutinise practice in LAs and undertake external moderation visits to a sample of LAs to ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities.

STA provided LAs with a moderator standardisation exercise for use when recruiting moderators. This was designed to ensure that LA moderators have a sound knowledge of the national standards and to give confidence to schools receiving a moderation visit.
