The Independent Review of Teachers’ Standards, announced by the Secretary of State in March 2011 has been conducted in two phases. The first phase made recommendations to replace the existing QTS and Core standards with a single set of teachers’ standards. The second phase of the Review looked at the remaining tiers of the existing framework of professional standards (Post-Threshold, Excellent Teacher and Advanced Skills Teacher standards). Recommendations relating to the second phase were published in a report published on 12 December 2011
