As part of the Department's ongoing commitment to clarifying the activities schools are required to undertake, our myths and facts document addresses a number of common misconceptions and provides factual information on the current legal position or best practice advice for schools.

The myths included in this document are based upon common questions received in letters to the Department and feedback from school practitioners. The myths cover a wide range of areas including: behaviour, curriculum, assessment, funding, inspection and staffing.

This document was last updated in April 2012. In response to requests from school leaders and teachers, this updated version includes more entries on assessment and health and safety.
