The Bureaucracy Reference Group (BRG) has been set up to advise the Department on reducing unnecessary bureaucracy in schools. It includes experienced, current primary, secondary and special school headteachers and teachers, as well as business managers from schools across England. The group brings valuable frontline skills, knowledge and ideas to the Department.

BRG replaces the Implementation Review Unit. Its first meeting was on 7 October 2010.

Discussion at meetings is confidential to encourage the free and frank exchange of views between school professionals and civil servants. The group meets every half term.
