This year’s Open Book documents - about sixth form funding and success rates - are now available to download. We are writing to all school and academy sixth forms (including all 16-19 providers that returned the 2010/11 post-16 school census), local authorities and academy sponsors, to explain this in more detail.

This is the second year that we have run the Open Book project. Last year the project was positively received by the sector, which made a considerable investment with us in understanding how 16-19 funding allocations are made and the important role of school census data in this process. In order to capitalise on this, we have developed the second year of Open Book with as few changes as possible, so you will recognise the format of the documents from last year.

The EFA will share three documents with every provider that returned the 2010/11 post-16 school census:

  • 2012/13 funding allocation: a spreadsheet showing how the Standard Learner Number and Provider Factor was derived from your census return
  • 2010/11 Qualifications Success Rate report to support sixth forms with quality improvement
  • 2010/11 Success Rate spreadsheet showing how your success rate was derived (including a business case form).

Sixth forms will have the opportunity to propose a change to their success rate if they believe that their census data needs to be updated. They can do this by submitting a business case to the EFA by 1 June 2012.

The documents are available to download through our IM Portal, and comprehensive guidance is available on this website.

We are also holding briefing events around the country and we’ll provide details of these in our letter this week.
