Get involved this year with Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) Awareness Day on Wednesday 24 October 2012. IWF Awareness Day is an annual event to raise awareness of where the public can go to report online child sexual abuse material.
Reports are confidential and can be made anonymously.
The IWF UK Hotline, which tackles online child sexual abuse content, is currently undertaking some research into the prevalence of sexually explicit, self-generated content which features young people. Together with Childnet International and South West Grid for Learning, IWF will present the findings alongside the educational response to this, at their event in Westminster on Awareness Day.
Supporting this day will be IWF Members - online companies - who will be dedicating some online space to promoting the IWF to their customers. If you would like to support IWF Awareness Day, contact the IWF at the email address at the bottom of this page.
Public reports to the IWF have helped to:
- Share intelligence with the police and has aided the identification and rescue of 12 children in the past two years;
- Virtually eliminate online child sexual abuse content in the UK - less than 1 per cent of child abuse content is hosted in the UK since 2003, down from 18 per cent in 1996;
- Remove over 92,000 URLs containing criminal content since 1996.
