The UKCCIS Summit 2012 was held on Thursday, 28 June in central London.

Following the success of the previous year, the 2012 UKCCIS Summit provided another exclusive opportunity for professionals to engage in a lively and thought provoking networking event to celebrate progress made by UKCCIS on child internet safety in the last year. It was also an opportunity to look at the challenges of the year ahead. There was also a live anonymous ‘ask the audience’ interactive voting session.

The event included keynote speeches, from the UKCCIS joint Ministerial Chair: Tim Loughton MP, Minister for Children and Families, presentations from children and organisations, and allowed for an opportunity for networking among UKCCIS members and those working within the area of child internet safety.

Keynote speakers included:

  • John Grounds, Director of Child Protection Consultancy, NSPCC;
  • Scott Dodds, General Manager for Marketing and Operations, Microsoft UK;
  • Dido Harding, Chief Executive, TalkTalk Group;
  • Tim Loughton MP, Minister for Children and Families;
  • Lynne Featherstone MP, Minister for Equalities & Criminal Information;
  • Reg Bailey, Chief Executive, Mother’s Union;
  • Vicki Shotbolt, Chief Executive Officer, the Parentzone;
  • In addition there were a number of presentations and short films involving young people and their views on particular aspects of child internet safety.

There was also a question time debate chaired by:

Dr. Linda Papadopoulos, Psychologist and author of Home Office Commissioned Review on Sexualisation of Young People.

Panel members included:

  • Reg Bailey, Chief Executive, Mothers’ Union;
  • Dido Harding, Chief Executive, TalkTalk Group;
  • Vicki Shotbolt, Chief Executive Officer, the Parentzone;
  • Stephen Balkam, Chief Executive Officer, Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI); and
  • Two young people, representing Beat Bullying and Childnet.
