Scope note / definition

Brought in by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 for people who work with children and vulnerable adults. Changes to the scheme were included in the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 and came into force from September 2012. Superseded by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
