The Connexions Service will provide a radical new approach to guiding and supporting young people throughout their teenage years, and in the transition to adulthood. It will be a universal service, in that it will provide advice, guidance and personal support to all young people according to their needs. The service will seek to reduce social exclusion, and be clear in its plans how it proposes to do so, meeting the needs of specific groups such as young people excluded from school, who misuse drugs and young offenders. Personal development opportunities, which enable young people to work with others or take on leadership responsibilities through access to sporting, cultural and volunteering activities, will also be an important feature of the service.
